MiG-29A Fulcrum 553 as it was seen during Kim Jong-Un's visit in 2012 to the MiG-29 unit of the 57th Wing, Oncheon AB, near Pyongyang in 2012. The red banners on the fuselage roughly translated "Kim Il-Sung inspected this aircraft in August 1988, Kim Jong-Il inspected this aircraft in August 1998 (with his father) and again in February 2008. Some MiG-29s assembled in North Korea were assigned numbers referring to special events such as 415 for Kim Il-Sung's birthday (April 15, 1912) 820 for August 29, 1948 when the KPAAF was formed.
Designed to help the Soviet Union attain air superiority, the MiG-29 fighter was first flown on October 6th, 1977. The MiG-29, known as the "Fulcrum," has a high-mounted bubble canopy and twin jet engines with diagonal-shaped air intakes and large exhausts. Its tapered, swept-back wings and boom-mounted tail fins give it its classic look. Armed with medium and short-range missiles and unguided weapons for ground and sea-surface targets, the MiG-29's sight is a helmet-mounted system-the pilot chooses his targets by looking at them. Even today the Fulcrum remains a potent adversary, and will remain in service for at least another decade. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
JC's 1:72 scale MiG-29 is constructed almost entirely of diecast metal, with careful attention paid to even the smallest of details. This is a model with many movable parts, including a hinged canopy, deployable speed breaks and movable rudders with correctly replicated actuator mechanism. The landing gear is highly detailed, with rivets inside the gear doors, separately applied transparent landing lights, structural detail inside the wheel wells and a detailed splash fender. The auxiliary air inlet's louvers seamlessly blend with the upper fuselage. Fully armed with a 30mm cannon and three different missile types, this model is available as the single-seat A variant or two-seat B variant.
