In 1989, the Iraqi Air Force operated the Su-22M4 Fitter K as a key ground attack aircraft during the post Iran Iraq War period. The Su-22M4 featured improved avionics, navigation systems, and weapons capability compared to earlier variants, allowing more accurate strike missions. Iraqi units used the aircraft for training, readiness, and regional deterrence as the air force rebuilt after years of conflict. The Su-22M4 could carry a wide range of bombs, rockets, and guided weapons, making it a versatile strike platform. By 1989, it formed an important part of Iraq's tactical airpower inventory.
Designed as a swing-wing fighter-bomber, the Su-17 first flew on August 2nd, 1966. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
