Designed to meet a JASDF requirement for a C-46 Commando replacement, the C-1 was first flown on November 12th, 1970. Typical of modern military transport designs, the C-1 has a high-wing, high t-tail configuration to Maximise cabin volume and allow for easy loading through a rear ramp. The C-1 requires a crew of 5 and is capable of lifting 26,000lbs of cargo or 60 fully-equipped troops or 45 paratroops. Political limitations in the 1960s restricted the design to a range of just 700nm, severly limiting the operational capabilities of the C-1. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
