Boeing 747-121A, manufacturer serial number 19650, line number 24, registered N743PA, was one of two 747-100s American Airlines leased from launch customer Pan American World Airways in 1970 to inaugurate American's own "Americana Service" 747 flights beginning March 2, 1970, from New York JFK to Los Angeles, while American awaited delivery of its own aircraft. The airframe was later returned to Pan Am and eventually retired; remarkably, it survives today as part of the "1975 Avenue & Hotel" in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, where it was disassembled, transported, and reassembled alongside a former JAL 747SR to create themed hotel suites within the two preserved jumbo jets.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
