Convair CV-580, serial number 56, entered service with the Federal Aviation Administration as N39. The aircraft has been used by the FAA as a research and calibration platform supporting aviation safety programs. Equipped with specialized instrumentation, it performs missions including navigation aid calibration, flight testing, and aviation system evaluation. The CV-580 is a turboprop conversion of the earlier Convair 340 and is powered by Allison 501 turboprop engines. N39 has supported numerous FAA research and operational missions contributing to the safety and development of the United States aviation system.
