Boeing 747-121, serial number 20107, entered service with NASA as N905NA. The aircraft was originally delivered to American Airlines before later being acquired by NASA for use as a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. Modified to carry the Space Shuttle orbiter on its upper fuselage, the aircraft transported orbiters between landing sites and the Kennedy Space Center. The heavily modified 747 also supported approach and landing tests during the early Space Shuttle program. Powered by Pratt and Whitney JT9D engines, N905NA played a historic role in NASA's Space Shuttle operations.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
