Boeing 747-400, serial number 24377, registered N401PW, was the first Boeing 747-400 built and served as the principal prototype for development of the new generation Jumbo Jet. The aircraft made the 747-400's maiden flight on April 29, 1988 and was used extensively by Boeing to test the type's new two-crew glass cockpit, revised wing, winglets, engines and other systems. After completing flight-test duties, N401PW was refurbished and delivered to Northwest Airlines in December 1989 as N661US. It later joined Delta through the Northwest merger and was retired in 2015. This historically important aircraft is preserved at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta.
