The SH-3H Sea King served with Helicopter Anti Submarine Squadron 12, HS-12, aboard the USS Midway during the late 1970s and early 1980s. As part of Carrier Air Wing 5, HS-12 used the SH-3H for antisubmarine warfare, plane guard duty, search and rescue, and general fleet support. The H model featured updated sonar, radar, and acoustic processing gear, improving tracking of submarines across the Western Pacific. Operating from the forward deployed Midway homeported in Japan, HS-12 conducted continuous patrols, training flights, and operational missions, providing a critical ASW capability throughout Midway's deployments in the region.
