Republic F-84E Thunderjet   5.25"   4"

As a follow up to the P-47 Thunderbolt, the United States began production of a single-seat fighter bomber known as the F-84 Thunderjet and Thunderstreak. Although the aircraft originated in, and was used primarily by the United States in the Korean War, nearly half of the 2,713 produced were supplied to NATO forces. The Thunderjet flew at a maximum speed of 695 mph, was armed with six 12.7 mm Browning M3 machine guns, and continued in service with the Air National Guard until 1971.

Please note: This model is of the F-84E Thunderjet although the manufacturer's packaging incorrectly identifies the model as an (F-84F) Thunderstreak!

Republic F-84E Thunderjet

Designed to meet a US Army requirement for a turbojet "day fighter," the F-84 first flew on February 28, 1946. Early models suffered from so many structural and engine problems that the Air Force considered scrapping the F-84 project in 1948, but designers rallied and by 1949 the F-84D was fully operational and free from most of its earlier problems. The aircraft became the Air Force's primary strike aircraft during the Korean War, and could claim several firsts, including the first fighter capable of carrying a nuclear weapon and the first to use in-flight refueling.
