Tupolev Tu-154M, registered B-20AD, flew for China United Airlines, a low-cost carrier funded by the People's Liberation Army and based at Beijing's smaller Nanyuan Airport. China United's fleet historically included a small number of Tupolev Tu-154Ms alongside its growing Boeing narrowbody fleet, reflecting a transitional period as the airline modernized away from Soviet-designed aircraft. Operating as Beijing Nanyuan Airport's sole passenger carrier, China United built a budget-focused business model serving around 20 domestic Chinese destinations, eventually completing its shift entirely to Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft as the Tu-154 fleet was retired.
Designed as an enlarged version of the Tu-134 to replace the Il-18 and Tu-104, the Tu-154 was first flown on October 4th, 1968. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
