Airbus A330-743L BelugaXL, entered service with Airbus Transport International as F-GXLO. The aircraft is the sixth and final BelugaXL constructed and made its first flight from Toulouse on July 21, 2023. Developed from the Airbus A330, the enormous specialized freighter offers approximately 30 percent more cargo capacity than the original A300-600ST Beluga and can carry two A350 wings simultaneously. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, F-GXLO transports oversized Airbus components between European production facilities. BelugaXL No. 6 is particularly distinctive because its whimsical whale-inspired markings include a winking eye on the port side.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
