Airbus A330-342, registered B-HWK, flew for Dragonair wearing a special livery commemorating the tenth anniversary of the airline's operations, part of the Hong Kong-based carrier's fleet of A330-300s supporting regional routes across Asia before Dragonair's 2016 rebrand into Cathay Dragon following full integration into the Cathay Pacific Group. As part of Dragonair's historic widebody fleet, B-HWK represented the airline's growth from a small regional Hong Kong carrier into a significant Asian network airline, with special anniversary liveries marking key milestones in the carrier's decades-long history serving destinations throughout Greater China and Southeast Asia.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
