Boeing 777-237LR, registered VT-ALG, flies for Air India as part of the flag carrier's fleet of ultra-long-range 777-200LR "Worldliner" aircraft, among the longest-range commercial airliners ever built. Air India acquired the 777-200LR to support some of the world's longest nonstop routes, connecting India to distant destinations across North America without requiring intermediate stops. As part of Air India's premium long-haul fleet, now under Tata Group ownership following the airline's 2022 privatization, VT-ALG supports the carrier's flagship ultra-long-haul services connecting major Indian cities to the United States and Canada.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection.
