Boeing 777-223ER, registered N796AN, flies for American Airlines wearing the oneworld alliance special livery, reflecting the carrier's founding membership in the global airline alliance. As part of American's substantial fleet of 777-200ERs supporting long-haul international routes from hubs including Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, and Chicago, the aircraft connects the United States to destinations across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. American Airlines has used the oneworld livery on select aircraft across its widebody fleet to visibly reinforce its alliance partnerships, complementing the airline's standard livery on the bulk of its 777-200ER fleet.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection.
