Boeing 777-367ER, operated by Cathay Pacific as B-KQU. Delivered new in December 2013, the GE90-powered aircraft joined Cathay's long-haul 777-300ER fleet from Hong Kong. B-KQU is particularly recognizable for carrying the "Spirit of Hong Kong" special livery, featuring stylized silhouettes representing the people and character of Hong Kong. The aircraft was stored during Cathay's pandemic-era fleet reduction before returning to regular passenger service. It remains active in 2026 on Cathay's international network, with recent assignments including Frankfurt, Sydney and Manila. The special scheme makes B-KQU one of the most distinctive aircraft in Cathay Pacific's 777 fleet.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection. Standard varients have a range of 4,200 nautical miles while Extended Range (ER) variants can fly for 6,600 nautical miles and the Longer Range (LR) variant is the world's longest range airliner capable of flying 7,800 nautical miles. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
