Boeing 757-28A, registered G-WJAN, flew for Airtours International Airways, one of the two 757-200s the British leisure carrier initially received from Inter European Airways in 1993 following Airtours plc's acquisition of Aspro Travel and its in-house airline. Airtours ultimately operated seven 757-200s between 1993 and 2002, including G-WJAN, before the carrier was renamed MyTravel Airways in 2002. As part of Airtours' historic charter fleet, the aircraft supported the carrier's package holiday routes connecting UK regional airports to European sun destinations during the height of Britain's competitive independent leisure airline sector.

Boeing 757-200

Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before production ceased in 2004, however many airframes have since been retrofitted with drag-reducing blended winglets to help improve fuel economy.
