Boeing 757-236, registered G-OOOB, flew for Air 2000, a British leisure carrier established in April 1987 that operated a substantial fleet of 27 Boeing 757-200s between 1987 and early 2004, when the airline was renamed First Choice Airways. Sixteen of Air 2000's 757s, including G-OOOB, transferred to First Choice as part of the rebrand. As part of Air 2000's core charter fleet, the aircraft supported package holiday routes connecting UK regional airports to Mediterranean and other European leisure destinations during a period when British tour operators commonly owned and operated their own dedicated in-house airlines.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
