Oxford Diecast Oxford Aviation AC117
Republic P-47D Thunderbolt Diecast Model
USAAF 318th FG, 333rd FS, Daniel Boone

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Republic P-47D Thunderbolt   6"   6.75"

This P-47 was flown by Capt Daniel Boone 333rd FS3. 18FG, whose namesake was the legendary 18th Century pioneer and American folk hero Daniel Boone, born in 1734. The nose-art features the original Dan'l Boone character, complete with "Wild Frontier" Davy Crockett racoon fur hat. The aircraft is predominantly silver with yellow nose cone, black underside with yellow banding round the fuselage and black and yellow tail fin/rudder, which also features the serial number in a yellow band - 325857.The propellers are also black and yellow while the engine casing is particularly well detailed with silver crank case and satin black cylinders and intake. The blue on silver US Star on the fuselage rounds off the authentic detail.

Captain Daniel Boone survived the War and rose to the rank of Colonel before retirement. Along with a fellow WWII veteran, he even had an audience with President J F Kennedy in the Oval Office!

Republic P-47D Thunderbolt

Designed by Alexander Kartveli meeting a USAAC requirement for a heavy fighter, the P-47 was first flown on May 6th, 1941. Later models featured a "bubble-top" canopy rather than the sharply peaked "razorback" fuselage which resulted in poor visibility for the aircraft's pilot. The P-47, a deadly pursuit aircraft, featured 8 x 12.7mm machine guns; all mounted in the wings. Even with the complicated turbosupercharger system, the sturdy airframe and tough radial engine, the P-47 ("Jug" or "Juggernaut" as it was nicknamed) could absorb damage and still return home. Built in greater quantities than any other US fighter, the P-47 was the heaviest single-engine WWII fighter and the first piston-powered fighter to exceed 500 mph.
