Tupolev Tu-204-100SE, registered CU-C1703, flies for Cubana Cargo as part of the Cuban state airline's small fleet of Russian-built freighters supporting the island nation's limited international cargo connections, alongside sister aircraft CU-C1700. Cuba's continued reliance on Soviet and Russian aircraft designs, including the Tu-204, reflects the country's historically close aviation ties with Russia amid decades of US trade restrictions that have limited access to Western-built aircraft and spare parts. As one of a handful of Tu-204 freighters serving international export markets, CU-C1703 supports Cubana's efforts to maintain air cargo links to Europe and the Americas.
