Tupolev Tu-134A, registered RA-65083, flew for Aeroflot Nord, a regional subsidiary of Aeroflot based in Arkhangelsk that operated domestic Russian routes primarily in the country's northern regions before the airline's operations were absorbed into Nordavia and later rebranded. Aeroflot Nord's Tu-134 fleet provided essential regional connectivity across sparsely populated areas of northern Russia where the type's relatively small capacity and short-field capability suited thinner regional routes. The airline gained international attention following a fatal 2008 crash, one of several incidents that highlighted ongoing safety concerns with Russia's aging Tu-134 fleet before its eventual retirement.
