Tupolev Tu-134A, registered LZ-TUM, flew for Balkan Bulgarian Airlines as part of the Bulgarian flag carrier's substantial fleet of Soviet-designed twinjets supporting domestic Bulgarian routes and connections across the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War era. Balkan Bulgarian Airlines relied heavily on Tupolev aircraft throughout the Communist period, reflecting Bulgaria's close aviation ties with the Soviet Union. As part of this historic fleet, LZ-TUM supported Balkan's regional and domestic network before the airline's eventual privatization and fleet modernization following the fall of Communism in Bulgaria, and its ultimate closure in 2002.
Designed as twin-engined, narrow-body airliner, the T-134 was first flown on September 9th, 1970. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
