Airbus A330-243, registered N378HA, flies for Hawaiian Airlines as part of the carrier's fleet of A330-200s supporting long-haul routes connecting Hawaii to the U.S. mainland and destinations across the Pacific including Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. Hawaiian Airlines has built its long-haul network around the A330-200 as a core widebody type, valued for its range and efficiency on the long overwater routes connecting the isolated Hawaiian Islands to distant markets. As part of this fleet, N378HA supports Hawaiian's role as the primary air link connecting Hawaii to the rest of the world.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
