Boeing 777-300ER, registered TC-LKD, flies for IndiGo, wet-leased or otherwise sourced from Turkish carrier connections given its Turkish registration prefix, to support the Indian low-cost carrier's expansion into long-haul international markets. IndiGo has traditionally operated an all-Airbus A320 family narrowbody fleet, making the introduction of leased 777-300ER widebody capacity a notable strategic shift as the carrier begins building long-haul international routes. As part of this expansion strategy, TC-LKD supports IndiGo's ambitions to connect India directly to more distant international destinations beyond its traditional narrowbody network's range.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection.
