Boeing 767-3P6(ER), registered A6-EYZ, flies for Etihad Airways as part of the Abu Dhabi-based carrier's fleet of 767-300ERs supporting medium-haul international routes. Etihad's 767 fleet, though smaller than its 777 and 787 widebody operations, has historically supported routes with lower demand or shorter stage lengths than the carrier's larger aircraft would efficiently serve. As part of this fleet, A6-EYZ supports Etihad's role as one of the major long-haul connecting carriers linking East and West through its Abu Dhabi hub, providing flexible widebody capacity across the airline's diverse route network.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
