Boeing 777-2Q8(ER), registered VP-BAS, flies for Aeroflot as part of the Russian flag carrier's fleet of 777-200ERs supporting long-haul international and domestic routes from Moscow. Aeroflot has operated a substantial 777 fleet for years as a core widebody type, though the carrier's international operations have been significantly curtailed since 2022 due to Western sanctions and airspace restrictions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. As part of this fleet, VP-BAS continues supporting Aeroflot's remaining international and domestic long-haul routes under these constrained operating conditions.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection.
