Airbus A330-302, registered B-18317, flew for China Airlines wearing a special livery commemorating the Taiwanese carrier's 60th anniversary, marking six decades of operations since the airline's founding. As part of China Airlines' fleet of A330-300s supporting regional international routes from Taipei, the aircraft reflected the carrier's practice of using anniversary and commemorative liveries to celebrate significant milestones in its corporate history. China Airlines has built an extensive network connecting Taiwan to destinations across Asia, and B-18317 supported this regional network during its service with the airline's A330 fleet.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
