Boeing 737-89L, registered B-5425, flew for Air China wearing a special livery commemorating the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, one of a pair of Winter Games-themed 737-800s the flag carrier operated alongside sister aircraft B-5497. As part of Air China's official role supporting the Games as a partner airline, the specially painted aircraft promoted Chinese national pride around hosting the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the first city to host both Summer and Winter Games. The livery reflected the broader mobilization of Chinese state resources and imagery around the milestone 2022 sporting event. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
