Boeing 767-300, registered B-2570, flew for Shanghai Airlines as part of the carrier's fleet of 767-300s supporting international and domestic long-haul routes before the airline's fleet modernization toward Boeing 787 Dreamliners for its widebody long-haul operations. Shanghai Airlines, now a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines, relied on the 767 as a core widebody type during an earlier phase of its fleet development. As part of this historic fleet, B-2570 supported Shanghai Airlines' early expansion into international long-haul markets from its Shanghai base.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
