Airbus A330-323, registered 9M-MTJ, flies for Malaysia Airlines as part of the flag carrier's fleet of A330-300s supporting regional international routes across Asia and Australia from Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia Airlines has operated the A330 as a core widebody type for medium-haul international routes, complementing the carrier's 737 narrowbody fleet and long-haul A350 operations. As part of this fleet, 9M-MTJ supports Malaysia Airlines' role connecting Malaysia to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region as the country's national carrier.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
