Airbus A330-323, registered HL8501, flies for T'way Air as part of the South Korean low-cost carrier's fleet of A330-300s supporting the airline's expansion into medium and long-haul international routes. T'way Air, traditionally an all-737 narrowbody low-cost carrier, added the A330-300 to extend its network reach to more distant Asian and Australian destinations beyond the range of its core narrowbody fleet. As part of this widebody fleet, HL8501 supports T'way Air's ambitions to compete with larger Korean carriers on selected long-haul low-cost routes from Seoul.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
