The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s for the West German Army. The tank first entered service in 1979 and succeeded the earlier Leopard 1 as the main battle tank of the German Army. It is armed with a 120 mm smoothbore cannon, and is powered by a V-12 twin-turbo diesel engine. Various versions have served in the armed forces of Germany and 12 other European countries, as well as several non-European nations, including Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Singapore, and Turkey.

The Panzerkampf 1:72 scale Leopard 2 family recreates several major variants of Germany's modern main battle tank, including the 2A4, 2A5, 2A6 and 2A6EX. The 2A4 features the earlier flat-sided turret, while the 2A5 introduced distinctive wedge-shaped turret armor. The 2A6 retains this armor but adds the noticeably longer 120mm L55 main gun, with the 2A6EX incorporating additional armor protection. The models feature die-cast metal and plastic construction, a fully rotating turret and elevating cannon for adjustable display positions. Fixed tracks, detailed road wheels, antennas, hatches, engine grilles and finely molded armor details complete the models.
