The Leopard 1 entered service with the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) in 1969, replacing older Centurion tanks and strengthening the Netherlands' contribution to NATO's Cold War defenses. Built in West Germany, the Leopard 1 combined exceptional mobility with the highly effective British-designed 105mm L7 rifled gun, giving Dutch armored units a modern and capable main battle tank. Although its armor was relatively light by later standards, the Leopard 1 relied on speed, maneuverability, and long-range firepower for battlefield survival. The type served as the backbone of Dutch armored forces for decades before eventually being replaced by the more heavily protected Leopard 2.

The Panzerkampf 1:72 scale Leopard 1 recreates the classic Cold War main battle tank with its low-profile hull, rounded turret and long 105mm L7 main gun. The model features die-cast metal and plastic construction with a fully rotating turret and elevating cannon, allowing the gun to be positioned at different angles for display. The tracks are permanently fitted and non-moving, with detailed suspension and road wheels underneath. Fine surface features include engine grilles, access panels, turret equipment, machine guns, antennas and molded armor details. Its functional turret and cannon provide useful display flexibility while retaining the clean, distinctive profile of the original Leopard 1.
