In 1988, the East German Air Force, or LSK (Luftstreitkrafte der Nationalen Volksarmee), operated the formidable Mil Mi-24P Hind from Basepohl airfield in Mecklenburg. The "P" variant, equipped with a fixed twin-barrel 30mm cannon, gave the attack helicopter devastating firepower, complementing its troop transport capacity. At Basepohl, the LSK maintained readiness as part of Warsaw Pact strategy, tasked with both anti-armor strikes and close air support for advancing ground forces. Training emphasized low-level flying, rapid deployment, and cooperation with armored units. By the late 1980s, these Hinds symbolized East Germany's frontline offensive power.
Designed as an attack helicopter gunship, the Mi-24 was first flown on September 19th, 1969. It features a distinctive tandem cockpit and is heavily armed with a combination of machine guns, rockets, and missiles, making it effective for both combat and troop transport roles. The Mi-24 can carry eight soldiers in addition to its armament, offering versatility in various military operations. Known for its speed and durability, the Hind has seen extensive use in numerous conflicts worldwide, earning a reputation as a formidable combat helicopter. The Panzerkampf 1:72 scale Mi-24 Hind recreates the distinctive Soviet attack and assault helicopter in both Mi-24V Hind-E and Mi-24P Hind-F variants. The Mi-24V is easily identified by its undernose gun turret, while the Mi-24P features a fixed twin-barrel 30mm cannon mounted along the right side of the fuselage. The model features an opening tandem cockpit canopy, spinning main and tail rotors, fixed lowered landing gear and installable weapons. Two pilot figures and a display stand are also included. Die-cast metal and plastic construction, detailed cockpit, engines, antennas and surface features complete this large helicopter model.
