The Ukrainian Air Force has operated the Mil Mi-24P Hind since inheriting them from the Soviet Union in 1991. The "P" model, fitted with a side-mounted twin-barrel 30mm cannon, combines heavy firepower with the ability to transport up to eight troops. Ukrainian Hinds have been modernized with new avionics, communications, and countermeasures to extend their service life. They saw combat in the Donbas conflict beginning in 2014, conducting close air support, strike missions, and supply runs under dangerous conditions. Since 2022, Mi-24Ps have played a vital role against Russian forces, flying low-level, high-risk sorties to support ground operations. Designed as an attack helicopter gunship, the Mi-24 was first flown on September 19th, 1969. It features a distinctive tandem cockpit and is heavily armed with a combination of machine guns, rockets, and missiles, making it effective for both combat and troop transport roles. The Mi-24 can carry eight soldiers in addition to its armament, offering versatility in various military operations. Known for its speed and durability, the Hind has seen extensive use in numerous conflicts worldwide, earning a reputation as a formidable combat helicopter. Its advanced versions continue to serve in many air forces today. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
