During Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the 55th Special Operations Squadron conducted missions in a harsh desert environment, including emergency evacuation coverage for SEAL teams operating along the Kuwaiti coast. The unit also provided combat search and rescue coverage for coalition air forces across the Persian Gulf region. The missions were flown using the MH-60G Pave Hawk, a special operations variant of the Black Hawk used by Air Force Special Operations Command for long range infiltration, exfiltration, and personnel recovery missions. Equipped with terrain following radar, defensive systems, night vision capability, and an in flight refueling probe, the MH-60G could operate deep in hostile territory, often at night and in adverse conditions. The aircraft later evolved into the HH-60G configuration, shifting focus toward combat search and rescue while retaining many of its advanced mission systems and long range capability.

Sikorsky MH-60G Pave Hawk

Designed as a better-performing, more reliable replacement for the UH-1 Huey, the UH-60 Black Hawk was first flown on November 29, 1974. The Black Hawk was one of the first aircraft to use the General Electric T700, a common turbine engine designed for use in multiple Army helicopters. This four-bladed, twin-engined, medium-lift aircraft has a low-profile shape so that it can be transported aboard the C-130 Hercules. It also has greater survivability than the helicopter it replaced, with advanced avionics and electronics such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). The Black Hawk also serves as Marine One when transporting the President of the United States.

This model includes one set of rotor blades and two alternate rotor hubs. One rotor hub has straight arms for attaching the blades in extended (flying) configuration. The other rotor hub has bent arms for attaching the blades in folded (parking) configuration. Handy if you don't have a lot of extra shelf space to display such a large model!
