In 2018, USMC HMM-366 "Hammerheads" participated in Exercise Trident Juncture, operating the CH-53E Super Stallion during one of NATO's largest multinational training events. The squadron conducted heavy lift missions transporting Marines, vehicles, artillery, and critical supplies in support of amphibious and expeditionary operations. Crews practiced ship to shore assaults, external cargo lifts, and operations from austere landing zones under demanding weather conditions. Working alongside allied forces, HMM-366 strengthened interoperability and demonstrated the CH-53E's exceptional lift capacity and reliability. The exercise highlighted the Marine Corps' ability to rapidly project combat power and sustain forces during large scale coalition operations. The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Marine Corps for assault support and cargo transport. Introduced in the early 1980s, it features three powerful engines, a seven-blade main rotor, and a distinctive tail rotor canted at 20 degrees for additional lift. Capable of lifting over 30,000 pounds, the CH-53E can carry vehicles, artillery, and troops internally or externally. It has served in multiple combat operations, including Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Despite its age, the CH-53E remains a critical asset until the full transition to the more modern CH-53K King Stallion is complete. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
