In 2008, USMC HMH-464 "Condors" operated CH-53E Super Stallions from MCAS New River, North Carolina, providing critical heavy-lift support for the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The squadron was heavily engaged in deployments to Iraq, where it transported troops, equipment, and supplies across the battlespace, often under hostile conditions. HMH-464's powerful helicopters enabled rapid mobility and logistical sustainment in support of combat operations. The Condors maintained high mission readiness through intensive maintenance and training, exemplifying Marine aviation's adaptability and resilience. Their efforts in 2008 directly contributed to the operational success of U.S. and coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Marine Corps for assault support and cargo transport. Introduced in the early 1980s, it features three powerful engines, a seven-blade main rotor, and a distinctive tail rotor canted at 20 degrees for additional lift. Capable of lifting over 30,000 pounds, the CH-53E can carry vehicles, artillery, and troops internally or externally. It has served in multiple combat operations, including Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
