USMC Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1) is responsible for testing and evaluating U.S. Marine Corps fixed-wing, tiltrotor, and rotary-wing aircraft. In 2021, the squadron flew the CH-53E for heavy-lift missions during exercises like WTI 2-21, moving vehicles and gear for expeditionary operations. While the CH-53K underwent Initial Operational Test and Evaluation, the CH-53E ensured mission readiness and reliability in real-world conditions. VMX-1s dual role highlighted the CH-53E's enduring capabilities and its importance as the CH-53K progressed toward full operational deployment. The squadron exemplified the transition between proven legacy platforms and the next generation of Marine Corps aviation. The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Marine Corps for assault support and cargo transport. Introduced in the early 1980s, it features three powerful engines, a seven-blade main rotor, and a distinctive tail rotor canted at 20 degrees for additional lift. Capable of lifting over 30,000 pounds, the CH-53E can carry vehicles, artillery, and troops internally or externally. It has served in multiple combat operations, including Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Panzerkampf 1:72 scale CH-53 is an impressive die-cast reproduction of Sikorsky's massive heavy-lift helicopter. Major variations include the USMC CH-53E Super Stallion and specialized MH-53E Sea Dragon. The CH-53E is distinguished by its three engines, seven-blade main rotor, large external fuel tanks and heavy-lift configuration, while the MH-53E features noticeably enlarged fuel sponsons and specialized equipment for long-range airborne mine-countermeasure missions. Panzerkampf has produced numerous operational and special-scheme releases, including HMX-1 presidential-support aircraft. Folded rotors configuration, landing gear, antennas, panel lines and authentic unit markings give this exceptionally large 1:72 model outstanding display presence and collector appeal. Each model includes one set of rotor blades and two alternate rotor hubs. One rotor hub has straight arms for attaching the blades in extended (flying) configuration. The other rotor hub has bent arms for attaching the blades in folded (parking) configuration.
