In the 1990s, USMC HMH-464 "Condors" operated the CH-53E Super Stallion, providing heavy-lift support for Marine Corps missions globally. Based at MCAS New River, North Carolina, the squadron conducted training, deployments, and humanitarian missions, including operations related to the Gulf War aftermath. The CH-53E's powerful lift capability enabled HMH-464 to transport troops, vehicles, and supplies over difficult terrain and austere environments. The squadron's efforts enhanced Marine expeditionary mobility and logistics. Throughout the decade, HMH-464 maintained high readiness and reliability, proving the CH-53E's vital role in both combat and support operations for the Marines.

Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion

The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Marine Corps for assault support and cargo transport. Introduced in the early 1980s, it features three powerful engines, a seven-blade main rotor, and a distinctive tail rotor canted at 20 degrees for additional lift. Capable of lifting over 30,000 pounds, the CH-53E can carry vehicles, artillery, and troops internally or externally. It has served in multiple combat operations, including Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Despite its age, the CH-53E remains a critical asset until the full transition to the more modern CH-53K King Stallion is complete.
