The RAF Central Flying School operated the Jet Provost as its primary jet training aircraft from the late 1950s through the 1980s. Based mainly at RAF Cranwell and RAF Valley, the Central Flying School used the Jet Provost to instruct qualified pilots in jet handling, formation flying, instrument procedures, and instructional techniques. The aircraft was valued for its simplicity, reliability, and forgiving handling, making it ideal for training flying instructors rather than ab initio students. Central Flying School Jet Provosts often carried distinctive red and white training markings. The type played a major role in standardizing RAF jet flying instruction and helped train generations of military flight instructors.
Designed to meet an RAF requirement for a jet training aircraft, the Jet Provost was first flown on June 26th, 1954. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
SkyMax's 1:72 scale Jet Provost is constructed in diecast metal, with value pricing and just the right number of features. The canopy with cordite charge can be opened or completely removed for an unobstructed view of the cockpit interior, which features side-by-side seats complete with overhead ejection seat handles, dual control sticks and pad-printed instruments. The internal nose-mounted landing lights have transparent lenses, and the solid metal wing blends almost seamlessly with the fuselage. The wing-mounted landing gear is provided as a subassembly for quick ground configuration. The armed “Strikemaster" variant features under-wing mounted ordnance such as bombs and fuel tanks.
