Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, construction number 37851, was delivered to Lufthansa as D-ABYI in 2012 as part of the airline's flagship long haul fleet renewal. The aircraft operated intercontinental services from Frankfurt to destinations across North America and Asia, including New York, Washington, and Shanghai. D-ABYI featured the stretched 747-8 fuselage, advanced GEn GEnx-2B67 engines, updated avionics, and a modern four class cabin with first, business, premium economy, and economy seating. Wearing Lufthansa's classic blue and white livery, it provided high capacity and improved fuel efficiency. D-ABYI became a cornerstone of Lufthansa's 747-8 operations, representing the final passenger evolution of the iconic jumbo jet in European service.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
