The Boeing 747-8I (Intercontinental) is the final and largest passenger variant of the iconic 747 family. Launched in 2006 and first flown in 2011, it features an extended fuselage, advanced GEnx-2B engines, and a redesigned wing derived from the 787. The 747-8I offers improved fuel efficiency, lower noise, and modernized avionics while retaining the classic hump-backed silhouette. Entering service with Lufthansa in 2012, it saw limited airline adoption as carriers shifted toward twin-engine widebodies. However, it gained prestige as a VIP and governmental aircraft, including serving as the platform for the next U.S. presidential VC-25B fleet.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
