Boeing 747-400, construction number 26470, registered as N747ER, was built as a test and certification aircraft for the 747-400 program. First flown in the late 1980s, it participated in extensive flight testing of new technologies including winglets, updated engines, and avionics improvements over earlier 747 variants. N747ER helped validate performance, handling, and operational characteristics for airline customers, performing route-proving missions and systems verification flights. Painted in Boeing house colors, it also appeared at airshows and demonstrations. After completing its primary test role, N747ER continued in support and demonstration duties, assisting with training and evaluation for airlines operating the 747-400.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
