McDonnell Douglas MD-11, serial number 48597, entered service with American Airlines as N1766A. Delivered in May 1993, the aircraft joined American's long haul fleet and operated intercontinental services to destinations across Europe, Asia, and South America. Powered by three General Electric CF6-80C2 engines, the MD-11 offered substantial range and passenger capacity. N1766A remained with American until 2001, after which it was converted to a freighter and joined FedEx as N598FE in June 2002.
