Airbus A320-271N, serial number 7588, entered service with Lufthansa as D-AING. Delivered in September 2017 and named "Kerpen," the aircraft operates short and medium haul services throughout Lufthansa's European network. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan engines, the A320neo offers improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and significantly lower noise levels compared with earlier A320 variants. In January 2026, D-AING received Lufthansa's striking 100th anniversary livery, featuring a blue fuselage with an oversized white crane whose wings visually merge with those of the aircraft, celebrating the airline's centenary.

Airbus A320neo

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
