The Battle of the Bulge, which lasted from December 16th, 1944 to January 28th, 1945, was a strategic plan by the German high command to attack allied forces on the western front. On December 16th, the 1st SS LAH Panzer Division had been brought up to strength, re-organized and re-equipped, and stood ready to lead what turned out to be Hitler's last great offensive of the west. The German forces Kampfgruppe Peiper (Peiper's Combat Group) were led by SS Lt. Col. (Oberstrummbannfuhrer) Jochen Peiper. Kampfgruppe Peiper, with a strength of 5,000 men and hundreds of vehicles, was made up of portions of the 1st SS Panzer Regiment and the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd SS Pz Grenadier Regiment, plus reconnaissance, artillery, and engineer units. Schwere SS Panzer Abteilung 501, with 45 Pz VI Konigstiger (King Tiger) tanks, was attached to Kampfgruppe Peiper and led the breakthrough of the American Line.

Henschel/Porsche Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger

Officially designated Panzerkampfwagen VI Sd.Kfz 182, the King Tiger entered service in 1944. This tank carried the awesome tank-killing 88mm main gun and had four-inch armor at its thickest. The system was crewed by five personnel and two machine guns were added for self-defense. The King Tiger's ability to destroy enemy tanks at extreme ranges yet remain impervious to those same tanks made it more than a match for any Allied tank. The sight of a King Tiger on the battlefield was terrifying and did great morale damage to Allied forces.

Forces of Valor's 1:16 Scale King Tiger Tank exhibits incredible detail in the sculpting, casting, and painting. The Masterpiece to the eye is further complemented with diecast construction of the most important elements. The real metal tracks, turret, gun barrel, shells, tank traps, and oil drums are all cast metal, providing unmatched realism and an impressive feel of a real heavy armor tank. The exterior detail of the King Tiger is enhanced by a wide variety of realistic accessories and actions. The metal tank tracks are functional and roll along the suspension. The hatches and doors open to explore the inner cavities. The tools come off and can be rearranged for diorama creations. Turning and removing the top turret reveals the complete inner tank details. Similar to the real Tiger Tank production, the turret comes off and the interior of the tank is open for exploration and movement of the armament. The Henschel Production Turret stored a total of 86 rounds for the 88mm gun, of which 22 rounds were stored just aft of the main gun in the rear of the turret. The rounds were held in place by spring loaded spacers, and the rounds on the lower racks were held with straps and quick release clamps. Opening the turret reveals an incredible interior featuring many of the internal working mechanisms of the real battle tank. Exploring the interior reveals the 88mm gun loading components, the munitions storage, and the areas for the Driver, Radio Operator, Loader, Gunner, and Commander.
