Boeing 767-200ER N610TW was delivered to Trans World Airlines in 1983 as part of their move into long-range, twin-engine widebody operations. Powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines, the aircraft flew transcontinental routes and later TWA's revived transatlantic services, including flights to London and Paris. It carried early forms of TWA's classic red-stripe livery before shifting to the final globe-tail scheme in the 1990s. After TWA's 2001 merger with American Airlines, N610TW was absorbed into the AA fleet but saw limited use. The aircraft was eventually retired and withdrawn from service as the 767-200ER fleet was phased out.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
