Boeing 767-222ER, construction number 22142, was delivered to United Airlines as N611UA in 1983 as part of the airline's introduction of the 767 family to its long haul fleet. The aircraft operated domestic transcontinental and international routes, including services to Europe and Asia from hubs such as Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles. N611UA featured a two class cabin with business and economy seating and wore United's classic early 1980s livery. Powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines, the 767-200ER offered extended range and improved fuel efficiency over older widebodies. N611UA served reliably for decades before being retired as United modernized its fleet with newer 767 and 777 aircraft.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. With more than 1000 aircraft produced, the 767 is the second most prolific wide-bodied airliner after the 747. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
