Boeing 767-222, construction number 22317, was delivered to United Airlines as N606UA in 1983 as part of the airline's introduction of widebody twinjets to its fleet. The aircraft operated domestic and transcontinental routes across the United States, linking hubs such as Chicago O’Hare, Denver, and San Francisco, and later flew some international services to Canada and the Caribbean. N606UA featured a two-class cabin layout with business and economy seating, reflecting early widebody comfort standards. The 767-200 offered improved fuel efficiency and range compared with older aircraft. After decades of reliable service, N606UA was retired as United modernized its fleet with newer 767 and 777 aircraft.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. With more than 1000 aircraft produced, the 767 is the second most prolific wide-bodied airliner after the 747. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
