As a result of the British withdrawal from the Gulf region a federation of 7 emirates joined to form the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971. With their oil wealth they acquired a formidable armed forces of which Dassault aircraft played a large role. Beginning in 1983 the UAE ordered 22 single-seat Mirage 2000EADs, 8 single-seat RADs reconnaissance versions and 6 dual-seat DAD trainers. Because of their specifications for an Italian-made defensive avionics suite and provisions for Sidewinder Missiles it wasn't until 1989 that the planes began to be delivered. The Nos. 1 and 2 Shaheen (Warrior) Squadrons received their final aircraft in November 1990.With little fanfare the UAE took part in the 1991 Gulf War flying 6 reconnaissance and 58 interdiction/strike missions against Iraq infantry and vehicles. The units responsible for the Mirage 2000EADs are the 71st, 76th and 86th Fighter Squadrons.
Designed as a lightweight fighter for the French Air Force, the Dassault Mirage 2000 was first flown on March 10th, 1978. The Mirage 2000 is a fourth generation fighter based on the Mirage III. It has a delta wing, one engine, a dual-intake, and can carry a range of air-to-surface weapons, including laser-guided bombs. Variants include a single-seat or dual-seat version. The dual-seat 2000N is nuclear strike capable, armed with nuclear weapons and equipped with navigation avionics that are capable of handling air-to-ground munitions. The Mirage 2000C is a single-seat, all weather interceptor armed with high firing rate 30mm guns. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale Mirage 2000 is a sleek diecast model with crisp panel lines, manufactured with only the smallest amount of plastic. The side mounted engine intakes with fixed inlet cones are constructed in plastic for greater accuracy and the configurable canopy provides a clear view of the instrument panel, control stick and ejection seat. The rear turbine blades are easily seen inside the exhaust nozzle and the large refueling probe is mounted on the nose (in most releases). The thin yet solid metal wing features exceptional panel line details, flap and aileron actuator arms at the rear and a complete set of removable wing mounted ordnance.
